It’s time to bust out the green shirt and booze when St. Patty’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day rolls around the corner. St. Patrick's Day is when people from all over celebrate and commemorate the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.

 

Although this memorable holiday is filled with laughter and fun, St. Patrick’s life wasn’t exactly filled with rainbows. Originally hailing from Roman Britain, by the age of 16, he had been abducted and taken to Ireland as an enslaved person. After some time, he escaped and returned as a missionary who spread Christianity across the island.

 

Then afterward, stories about St. Patrick began to grow. On March 17, a celebration turned into a day of cultural pride. In the present period, everybody celebrates the St. Patrick's Day festival, not only citizens of Irish descent but also in other countries like the United States of America, Australia, and many more.

 

Celebrating Saint Patrick

 

St. Patrick’s Day is characterized by many beautiful parades, good music, and dances. However, one thing that stands out is green since it is believed that wearing the color makes the wearer invisible to the wicked little men called leprechauns. However, be warned that not wearing green may subject you to a non-threatening pinch!

 

Another well-known icon is the shamrock, a three-leaved clover used by St. Patrick in his teaching of the holy trinity. The river is painted green in large cities such as Chicago, while New York City hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades.

 

Other Ways to Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day

 

No matter where you are or where you come from, you don’t need Irish blood running through your veins to be happy in the spirit of Saint Patrick's Day!

 

Anyone can join the local parade, prepare and serve traditional Irish dishes like corned beef and cabbage, or rest in a bar with Gaelic music and Guinness. Want to hold a party at home instead? Then, transform your house by covering the place with green, gold, and shamrocks and make some Irish soda bread. Whatever way you choose to do it, enjoy the day because it is all about enjoyment and the day's spirit.
