Earth, the only planet we have, is unfortunately said to be in great peril if change is not done very soon. As such, in 1970, nations commemorated Earth Day to campaign for greater understanding and treatment of the environment.

The concept of Earth Day was generated by the American politician Gaylord Nelson, who was shocked by the consequences of an oil spill. Since then, many Americans heeded the call, calling for better environmental protection.

This campaign contributed to introducing vital environmental protection laws like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. Earth Day is currently observed in about 190 countries, and encouraging efforts to maintain the earth’s health are being commemorated.

Celebrating Earth Day

People worldwide celebrate Earth Day by planting trees, cleaning up a local park, and conducting educational workshops, encouraging people of all ages to join. Meanwhile, local schools and organizations commemorate Earth Day by giving lectures on recycling, various renewable energy sources, global warming, and other related issues.

Some steps are also taken by individuals, such as cutting down on specific behaviors, such as riding bikes or walking instead of driving cars and minimizing the use of plastic.

Earth Day Every Day

Earth Day is a day of action; however, knowing that its message shouldn't be restricted to only a single day is essential. Instead, you can adapt these actions to your day-to-day life. Little steps such as having reusable shopping bags, saving water, or using less electricity can significantly improve the situation.

Remember that even the most minor contributions tend to add to the more significant cause of environmental conservation. In fact, let us make every day that we live under the sun an Earth Day so that children will enjoy a better and healthier environment in the coming years.
