The week-number calendar prints ISO 8601 week numbers on each month of a year. Weeks start on Monday. ISO week 1 is the week that contains January 4 (equivalently, the week with the year’s first Thursday). Days in late December can belong to week 1 of the next ISO year, and early January days can belong to week 53 of the previous ISO year. This page is a labeled year of months, not the week-number hub’s year matrix of Monday–Sunday ranges.

ISO weeks on month grids

Each day cell carries its ISO week number. The month still looks like a calendar; the extra label is the week id. Sunday-start US wall calendars that put Sunday in the first column disagree with ISO’s Monday start. This tool follows ISO, so the week number changes on Monday, not on Sunday.

Week 1 contains January 4

If January 1 is a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, week 1 of the new ISO year typically starts the following Monday, and January 1–3 (or 1–2) may still be week 52 or 53 of the previous ISO year. The numbers on those January cells will look “too high” if you expected week 1 on January 1. That is ISO, not a bug.

How to generate the labeled year

Enter a year and calculate. Read twelve months with week ids. Print for a warehouse or a classroom that speaks ISO week. Do not mix in US week numbers that start on Sunday and define week 1 as January 1; those are a different system this page does not print.

Federal holidays still fall on civil dates. Overlay 2026 holidays if a week-number report also needs closures. Holiday names are not ISO data.

Worked examples

A manufacturer’s batch labels use ISO week. Staff generate 2026 months, then see that a late-December production day is week 1 of the next ISO year. They avoid stamping the civil year on the batch when the ISO year already rolled.

A project plan written in “week 40” is mapped to October dates by reading the October grid. Without month labels, week 40 is an abstract number; with this calendar it is a set of seven dates (Monday–Sunday), possibly split across two months.

Weeks split across months

ISO weeks never split across weekdays; they always run Monday–Sunday. They often split across month names: a week can be March 30–April 5. Both months’ grids will show that same week number on the days they contain. That duplication is correct.

A custom calendar generator without week numbers is cleaner for kids’ wall calendars. Add numbers only when the audience is ISO. Monday week start on the custom generator still does not print week ids—that remains this page’s job.

53-week years on the grid

When the ISO year has 53 weeks, a week 53 band appears, often overlapping December–January. The weeks-in-year explainer covers the Thursday/leap-Wednesday rule. Here you simply see week 53 cells.

Retail 4-5-4 week numbers are not ISO. Do not read this grid as NRF periods.

Limits

No US week-number toggle. No fiscal-week numbering. No .ics of week boundaries. Screenshot the months. For a single date’s week number, the hub lookup is faster than scanning a year.

Academic “week 5 of term” is not ISO week 5. Keep term week counts on the academic calendar tool.

Warehouse and batch labels

Print the December and January months together when week 1 or week 53 crosses the civil year. A box stamped week 1 in late December is next ISO year, which surprises teams who stamp the civil year beside the week. Write both the ISO week and the ISO year on the label, not only the week number.

Month grids that split a week across two pages should repeat the week number on both months, which this calendar does. Do not white-out the number on April 1 because March already showed it; April 1 still belongs to that ISO week.

Teaching Monday start

Students used to Sunday-start posters will read the wrong week if they count from Sunday. A short legend on the printout should say weeks start Monday and week 1 contains January 4. Without that legend, the numbers look like a US week system they already know and they are not.

Thursday-owned week 1

Because week 1 contains the first Thursday, a year that starts on Thursday has January 1 inside week 1. A year that starts on Friday usually keeps January 1 in the previous ISO year’s last week. Frequently asked questions

What week numbers are printed on the months?

ISO 8601 week numbers. Weeks start on Monday. Week 1 is the week that contains January 4, which is also the week with the year’s first Thursday. Late December days can show week 1 of the next ISO year, and early January days can show week 52 or 53 of the previous ISO year.

How is this different from the week-number hub?

The hub and its year table list Monday–Sunday ranges with links to each week. This calendar prints the same ISO numbers onto month grids you can screenshot. Use the hub to look up a week’s dates; use this page when you want week ids sitting on a year of months.

When do January dates show a week 53 label?

When those January dates still belong to the previous ISO year because week 1 of the new ISO year has not started yet. That happens when January 1 falls late in the week. It is ISO membership, not a mistake in the civil year you entered.

Why is there no US Sunday-start week number?

This generator is ISO-only so week 1 stays defined by January 4 and Monday starts. US systems that call January 1 the start of week 1 disagree on week boundaries. Mixing both numbering schemes on one grid would make the labels unusable. Use ISO here or a US-specific process elsewhere.

How do I know if the year has 53 ISO weeks?

Use the weeks-in-year calculator for the 52 versus 53 answer and the Thursday or leap-Wednesday rule. This calendar will simply show a week 53 band when that year has one. The two pages split count versus map so neither URL is overloaded.

Is an ISO week the same as a 4-5-4 retail week?

No. Retail NRF-style weeks start on Sunday near February 1. ISO weeks start on Monday and begin the year near January 4. Week numbers will not match between those systems. Keep retail periods on the 4-4-5, 4-5-4, or 5-4-4 generators and ISO labels on this month calendar.
