The calendar reuse calculator answers a yes-or-no question: can last year’s printed January–December wall calendar be hung again for the following year. You enter the year printed on the paper. The answer is yes only when that printed year and the next civil year share leap status and January 1 weekday. It is not a list of all matching years, and it is not a lecture on the 28-year cycle.

The consecutive-year print test

Leftover posters are almost always last year versus this year, not versus a year eleven years away. This form encodes that consecutive pair. If the printed year is a leap year and next year is not, the answer is no because February 29 would appear on a year that lacks it, and March onward would be wrong. If both are common years but January 1 moved, every month is wrong even though February has 28 days in both.

How to use the yes/no

Enter the year shown in the header of the printed calendar. Calculate. Read yes or no, plus the two facts that decided it: leap status of the print year versus the next year, and January 1 weekdays. If no, order a new file from calendar generator rather than covering February with sticky notes—the later months would still be shifted.

Holiday glyphs printed on last year’s paper will be wrong even when the weekday grid is reusable, because observed dates move. Strip holiday callouts or cover them. Grid reuse is not holiday reuse.

Worked examples

A shop has leftover 2026 wall calendars in December and wants to know if they can sell them as next year’s stock. They enter 2026. If the answer is no, they discount them as scratch paper. If yes, they still sticker over the printed year and any holiday icons.

A teacher laminated a leap-year grid and asks whether the following common year can use it. The calculator returns no. They pull the common-year laminate instead of crossing out the 29th, which would not fix March.

What yes does not include

Yes means the weekday boxes match. It does not mean ISO week numbers in the margin match, because ISO week 53 can differ. It does not mean 4-5-4 retail weeks match. It does not mean school first days match. It means January 1 through December 31 occupy the same cells.

Monday-start versus Sunday-start reprints still match if the year type matches; only the blank lead-in cells move if you change week start when reprinting. The leftover physical print already has a week start; hang it as-is or reprint with the other start, but do not mix columns by taping.

Century years in consecutive pairs

The pair is always printed year N and civil year N+1. If N+1 is a century non-leap and N was a leap year, reuse fails. If both skip or both include February 29 consistently with January 1, reuse can succeed even near centuries. The form checks the actual pair rather than applying folklore.

Enter the printed year, not the year you hope to hang, unless those are the same number. The question is last printed year; the implied target is the next year.

When to use other tools instead

If you want every year that could share this print, not just next year, use same-calendar-years. If you want to understand spacing, use calendar-cycle. If you already know you need a new 12-month grid, skip the yes/no and generate one.

Multi-month leftover pads (June–July only) belong on same-calendar-months, which tests one month’s length and start weekday, not a full year hang.

Limits

No photo of your wall calendar is uploaded. No OCR of the printed year. You type the year. No advice on recycling. No holiday pack. Yes or no, with the two matching facts.

For a visual of next year’s months after a no, open yearly calendars for that next year once you know its number, using 2026 only when that is the year you are generating.

Sticker the year, not the days

When the answer is yes, a year sticker in the header is enough for the weekday boxes. Do not sticker individual dates. If the answer is no, stickers cannot fix March through December. Order a new print. Shops that sell leftover 2026 stock as next year without this test will mislead buyers on every weekday after the first mismatch.

Laminated classroom sets should include one leap grid and one common grid, then use this yes/no only for leftover consumer prints. A laminate library is the same-calendar-years problem; a leftover SKU is this consecutive-year problem.

ISO margins and holiday ink

Prints with ISO week numbers in the margin can have the right weekday boxes and the wrong week ids next year. If the leftover print includes week numbers, treat a yes as incomplete unless weeks-in-year also matches, which this form does not test. Prefer blank-margin leftovers for reuse. Holiday ink is always stale.

Frequently asked questions

What yes-or-no question does the reuse calculator answer?

It answers whether the January–December wall calendar printed for the year you enter can be hung in the following year. Yes requires matching leap status and matching January 1 weekday. No means February or later months would show the wrong weekdays. Holiday icons on the old print still need covering even when the grid matches.

How is this different from listing all matching years?

Same calendar years lists many years that share the input year’s layout, including non-adjacent years. Reuse only tests the printed year against the next civil year, which is the leftover-poster question. Use the list for a template library; use reuse for hang-it-again next year.

Why is covering February 29 not enough when reuse is no?

If the printed year is leap and next year is common, every date after February 28 is already shifted by one weekday. Crossing out the 29th does not move March 1 back. You need a common-year grid. The inverse problem, a missing 29th on a leap year, is equally unfixable with tape.

When should the calendar cycle page be used instead?

Use the cycle page to learn why adding 28 years fails at century non-leap years and why common years often repeat after 6 or 11 years. That is mechanism. Reuse remains a yes or no for one consecutive pair and does not teach the 28-year shortcut.

Is a matching grid also a matching holiday calendar?

No. Observed federal dates move even when weekdays of the 1sts stay the same. A reusable grid can still have the wrong holiday glyphs printed on last year’s paper. Strip or cover those callouts. Overlay a fresh holiday list for the year you will hang.

How should leftover single-month desk pads be tested for reuse?

Use same calendar months, which matches length and start weekday for one month, including the rule that February only matches Februaries of the same length. This reuse tool is for a full January–December wall calendar, not a single desk-pad month. Mixing the two tests reprints the wrong artifact.
